Car Rental Franchise Opportunities - Australia & New ZealandAbout Franchising
“Is a very successful and expanding method of marketing, selling and distributing goods and services. It combines the skills and experience of the franchisor and the goodwill created by the brand. Correctly bringing together the property rights and the extra financial resources provided, plus the entrepreneurial skills and drive of the franchisee, achieves success”. (http://www.nursesonly.co.uk/catalog/Glossary-of-Terms-sp-5.html) In other words, Franchising is about a brand or business being grown in a unique ‘partnership’ where the Franchisor has a product, a proven business model and a system for duplicating that success to incoming Franchisees in order to increase market penetration and share through size, brand awareness, competitive advantage gained through critical mass and economies of scale. In Australia (circa 2004), 850 franchise systems are in the market place with 50,600 franchise units. This figure does not represent the 8000 fuel retail outlets and 2400 motor vehicle dealers. This is a sector that accounts for more than 507,000 jobs.* In 1998, Australia became the first country in the world to create National Regulations (Trade Practices Act – Franchising) to increase the transparency and as such to ensure the integrity of the franchise relationship. Because this ‘Code of Conduct’ is the guideline that all Franchisors must adhere to, Australia continues to lead the world with its franchise development and report low levels of dispute and mediation between Franchisees and Franchisors.
