Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, is a small elegant city in a park. Set beside the Torrens River between the Adelaide Hills and the Gulf of St Vincent, it is probably Australia's best-preserved capital city. This is a city of pubs, cafes, restaurants, fine, fresh food and wine and host festivals for everything from the arts, and wine and food to roses, car races and horse trials. Every two years, the entire city becomes a stage for the internationally acclaimed Adelaide Festival of Arts and the Festival Fringe. Once a year the city streets of Adelaide are transformed as it plays host to the ‘Clipsal 500’ the preliminary round of the Australian V8 Supercar Series. In October 2005 a new state of the art airport opened to service all flights, both International and Domestic. Adelaide Surrounds A 20 minute drive will take you to the Adelaide Hills to the east, while a selection of superb sandy beaches, including Glenelg, awaits to the west. Adelaide is the wine capital of Australia. Six out of the top 10 Australian wines are made within a few hours’ drive of the City. The Barossa Valley is also a haven for tourists and wine lovers alike. The Valley sits on the eastern shore of Gulf St Vincent, in the far south of South Australia.
