Car Rental Wyong

On the Pacific Highway, which used to be the main route before the Sydney-Newcastle freeway was built; Wyong is about 90km north of Sydney’s CBD, near the western shore of beautiful Tuggerah Lake. This area was opened up to timber cutters in 1887 when the railway arrived and with this economical way of transporting their wood to encourage them, the loggers moved with a vengeance into what are now the Ourimbah and Olney State Forests to the west and caused devastation with their axes and saws.

But the hinterland has recovered admirably and today provides some pleasant walks and sightseeing opportunities for the visitor. The lake is fine for swimming, boating and fishing, as it has been to holidaymakers for more than 120 years. The local racetrack is a provincial favourite, hosting horse and greyhound racing, and there’s a trotting track, too. The delightful Yarramalong Valley to the west of Wyong is a place of great beauty that provides many worthwhile and challenging walks.

Across the lake, to the east of town, beaches like Norah Head, The Entrance, Toowoon Bay and Bateau Bay are easy to reach. The freeway spearing north out of Sydney brings Wyong to within a comfortable drive of the metropolis, and the big city of Newcastle is only 45 minutes or so away to the north.
