VEHICLE COLLECTION & RETURN

Vehicles can be collected from and returned to our depot in Whiteman Street, South Melbourne. Alternately we can offer FREE collection from most accommodation, homes or place of business within central Melbourne and surrounding suburbs. Prior notice is required and conditions may apply to shorter rentals.

AFTER HOURS RENTALS

For a small charge vehicles can be arranged for collection and return outside of normal operating hours.

AREA OF USE

We are pleased to provide rental cars for use in the greater Melbourne area (within 150km radius of CBD) Interstate rentals or hires outside of this area only on approval of the management.

KILOMETRES OF TRAVEL

Our rates quoted include up to 200 FREE kilometres per day for use within the Allocated Area (see Area of Use). This means that if you hire for 7 days you can travel up to 1400 kilometres without additional kilometre charges. Additional kilometres are charged at 0.22 cents per kilometre.

Unlimited Kilometres are available on hires of more than 3 days within the agreed usage area, subject to an additional daily charge. Please contact our office for details.

PAYMENT

Payment for the vehicle hire is made in full on arrival, or can be pre-charged by agreement. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Bank Card, Cash, Eftpos and Travellers Cheques. Due to high merchant fees an additional 5% fee will be charged with the use of AMEX or Diners cards. All prices shown are in Australian Dollars (AUD) and inclusive of GST.

SECURITY BOND

A Security Bond equal to the hirers chosen excess liability is pre-authorised on the nominated Credit Card on arrival. This is to ensure the vehicle is returned in good, clean, undamaged condition (body, windscreen, tyres, etc) and with the correct amount of fuel. The security Bond is cancelled / returned after return, subject to a final and satisfactory inspection of the rental vehicle. The credit card holder must be present on collection of the vehicle, and must also sign the Rental Agreement, unless previously organised. Cash bonds, equal to the excess liability are acceptable on a pre-arranged basis only. Customers looking to leave a cash bond may be also asked for additional proof of ID and residence, such as utility notices.

INSURANCE - Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

All of our vehicles are insured. As with private rental insurance, an excess applies in the unfortunate instance where there is damage caused to the vehicle. Our vehicles carry the standard excess of $2500.

We offer a range of packages to reduce the excess liability on the vehicle insurance. For a minimal daily amount, you may wish to reduce the excess that would be payable (Collision Damage Waiver) if the vehicle is damaged or causes damage to another or property. An opportunity will be made available during this booking process to choose one of these packages. If you are still undecided on whether you wish to reduce the excess, you may choose to select one of these options when you collect the vehicle. Standard CDW options do not apply to single vehicle accidents.

For those who also wish to reduce their insurance excess liability for single vehicle accidents we at Bargain Wheels in Melbourne City have introduced a Maximum Protection Cover package. This is available to drivers aged 25 to 75 years and covers both multiple and single vehicle accidents with an excess reduced to $500, plus tyre, windscreen and headlight damage liability down to nil. Please see Excess reduction Options during the booking process to make your choice.

ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE

Although our vehicles are well maintained and serviced, your peace of mind comes from knowing that we offer FREE 24 hour roadside mechanical breakdown assistance with RACV. RACV call-outs for human error related problems such as keys locked in the car, assistance with a flat tyre, run out of fuel or left the lights on etc, attract a $65 service fee, plus any additional costs relating to the call out. No vehicles are to be towed or repaired without the permission of Bargain Wheels Melbourne City management. We request that you advise us as soon as practicable of any need for RACV call-out.

CANCELLATIONS

Because of costs and loss of hire opportunity and revenue, cancellations made within 24 hours of commencement of hire period will incur a penalty fee of 3 days rental. Within 7 days – 1 days rental. More than 7 days – no fee applicable.

DRIVERS AGE

Our rates apply to drivers between 25 and 75 years of age. For drivers under this age but over 21 years of age, you may still rent a vehicle however a compulsory surcharge will be applied and excess amounts are different from over 25 year old drivers. These are displayed in the 'Optional Extras' fields during the online booking procedure and must be selected. Conditions Apply.

DRIVERS LICENCE

All drivers must hold a valid full driver's licence (i.e. not provisional or learners). A current acceptable Australian, overseas, or International licence (in English) is required from all drivers.

RENTAL DURATION

Minimum charge is for 24 hours from time of pick up. Additional hours are charged at $10.00 per hour up to 3 hours and a full day thereafter. Payment is to be made at commencement of hire.

ONE WAY HIRES

Depending on travel destination and length of hire, one way rentals may be available. Please discuss your requirements with our friendly office staff.

VEHICLE CHOICE

Please ensure the vehicle you have booked is large enough for the amount of luggage you are travelling with. A larger substitute vehicle may not always be available. Whilst every attempt is made to provide the customer’s vehicle class of choice, vehicles are subject to availability and may occasionally need to be changed or substituted at any time without the ability to give prior notice.

ADDITIONAL DRIVERS

There is no charge for additional drivers as long as they meet the requirements - up to 2 extra drivers can be added but we must sight their licences and they must also sign the Rental Contract.

STREET DIRECTORIES AND MAPS

We provide, with our compliments, FREE use of a map book covering the Melbourne area. Non-return of map book or damage to it will incur a replacement fee.

BABY & BOOSTER SEATS

Forward and rearward facing Baby Seats plus Child Booster Seats are available for hire. Please advise age of child and positioning requirements for harness.

PRAMS / PUSHCHAIRS & STROLLERS

For your convenience we also hire Strollers. Please email us if you require photos of these.

SURFBOARD SOFT RACKS

These are for use on USED cars only. Single and double racks available.

EARLY RETURNS / EXTENSION OF HIRE

The term of hire is for the period of time described in the Agreement.
No refund is available if vehicle is returned before date shown on contract. Any extension of a hire must be agreed to by management prior to the time and date of return listed on the contract. If an extension of a hire is not agreed to the vehicle must be returned by the time and date specified at commencement of hire or it may be reported stolen.

FUEL

All hirers are responsible for their own fuel costs. Whilst our vehicles are normally supplied with a full tank of fuel, this may not always be the case. Vehicles should be returned with a fuel level not less than that supplied at the commencement of the hire. Should the vehicle be returned short of fuel t will be re-fuelled by our staff and the deficit charged the hirer. A re-fuelling fee $10 will be charged in addition to the cost of the fuel.

CLEANING AND SMOKING IN VEHICLES

We take pride in supplying our customers what our customers want, with a well cleaned and Smoke Free vehicle. We ask that you return the vehicle in a similar clean state. Smoking is not permitted in our vehicles. Extra Cleaning / Sanitation Fees will apply when a vehicle is returned in a dirty condition or any evidence of smoking within the vehicle is found.
