What’s more, the AJ Hacket team planned to charge those who jump, for the pleasure. Well, the rest is history and after 17 years, literally, thousands of jumpers have taken the plunge off the 50-metre platform. And take it from someone who has done it, if you can stop the trembling in your knees long enough to look up, then you might just get to see one of the best views Cairns has to offer … after that … 3, 2, 1 Bunnnnnggggyyyyyy
Kuranda Scenic Railway – If you enjoy train rides then you will like the Kuranda Scenic Railway. If you like scenery, then you will love this trip and even if you like shopping you will really enjoy this trip. If of course, you don’t like any of these things then just sit back for 1 1/2 hours and enjoy the 34 kilometres as the 100-year-old railway climbs more than 300 meters through tropical rainforest, delves through 15 tunnels, bends around 98 curves and tiptoes precariously over 40 bridges. Then you might imagine how many blisters were caused banging in all those sleeper nails.
Skyrail Rain Forest Cableway – Skyrail is the World’s Most Beautiful Rainforest Experience. A 7.5km cableway, Skyrail glides just metres over the canopy of Australia’s World Heritage listed Tropical Rainforests. Two mid-stations, Red Peak and Barron Falls, provide the perfect opportunity to explore and learn more about this ancient environment on boardwalks and at the Rainforest Interpretation Centre.
Kuranda Village in the Rainforest – Whether you travel by train, Skyrail or take the short 25km drive from downtown Cairns, you’ll be glad you came. The Village is home to Museums, Art Galleries, Cafe’s and Restaurants, as well as famous Kuranda Markets . Enjoy the locals hospitality and experience Kuranda’s history and indigenous culture.
Cairns Tropical Zoo – A great way to come up close and personal with some of the locals. Animal locals that is. It offers a great day out for the family and you can park your hire car in the parking that is available.
White Water Rafting – WOW … nothing beats the adrenalin rush of White Water Rafting. Forceful water hurtling man and raft downstream … over, between, around and sometimes through the many rocks and boulders. No one puts on a better day than RnR White Water Rafting on the Tully River. Operating since 1986, RnR has established a reputation synonymous with safety, service and above all, fun. The best part about rafting on the Tully, compared to other spots I have rafted, is that the water flow is a controlled release rather than reliance on the melting snow … what does this mean to you … well for a start, you don’t need to wear a 7ml wetsuit.
