Terms & Conditions for Abel Car Hire


Rental Requirement

Driver’s Age
Drivers of hire vehicles must be 21 years old or older and those aged 21 to 24 are restricted to the types of vehicles they can hire. All drivers under the age of 25 pay a daily age surcharge. See step 3 for details.

Driver’s Licenses
Drivers are to be a minimum age of 21 years old and must hold a Current Full Australian, Overseas or International Drivers License.

Payment
At the time of your rental, please have your current driver’s licence and credit card with you. Before you drive away, you need to have the cost of the rental plus a minimum of $100 pre-authorisation security bond needs to be available on your credit card.
We accept Visa, Mastercard and Eftpos (2.5% Surcharge).
American Express / Diners (5.5% surcharge) coming soon.

Security Bond – Credit Card Visa/Mastercard
After you return the hire vehicle – and if no further charges apply – the pre-authorisation charge of $100 will be automatically released by your financial institution, depending on their release cycle. Normally held for 7-21 business days, consult your financial instituion for additional details.

Commercial Vehicles Return Times
Commercial vehicles cannot be returned or checked in after 6pm AEST any day of the week at any location. Any returns after this time will be checked in the following morning subject to an extra day’s rental charge.

Airport Transfers – Free!
Regular shuttle services are available from our Brisbane Airport location in accordance with our hours of operation. When you return your vehicle, please allow 1 hour to check-in your hire car and transfer to the airport.

Renters Standard Responsibility/Liability

Collision Damage Liability Waiver
All of our rental vehicles are insured. The renter/hirer credit card holder is given the benefit of this coverage subject to the conditions of the rental agreement.

There is a Standard Multi Vehicle Damage Liability of:
» Cars – $3300 including GST + 5.5% administration fees + 2.5% credit card surcharge
» Trucks – $6600 including GST + 5.5% administration fees + 2.5% credit card surcharge
This is included with all standard daily rates in the event of an accident with another vehicle.
All Renter liability amounts are payable at the time when returning the vehicle otherwise insurance/claims is voided.

Options to reduce your liability
We are able to offer you the option to reduce your Multi Vehicle Damage Liability to the following:
» Passenger Vehicles – $550 including GST + 5.5% administration fees + 2.5% credit card surcharge
» Commercial Vehicles – $990 including GST + 5.5% administration fees + 2.5% credit card surcharge
Abel Rent A Car offers the option to reduce your damage liability in the event of an accident. Please see in store for details.
This Collision Damage Liability Waiver (“LDW-MVA”) is optional.

Single Vehicle Damage
Abel Rent A Car does not cover any Single Vehicle Accident/Incident Damage.
Renters/Hirers/Credit Card Holders are advised that all rollovers, overhead, undercarriage, water, hail damage, abuse, negligence, offroad/beach driving, windscreen and tyre damage – however caused – is at the hirers risk and is not covered by Any Liability Damage Waivers or insurance – LDW -MVA.
Please note that insurance is void if the rental car or vehicle is driven on unsealed roads.
Note: Abel Rent A Car does not sell insurance it simply offers the customer the option to reduce your damage liability in the event of an accident. Only available at the time of rental vehicle pickup.

Administration Charges
The following administration charges will apply to your vehicle rental at the time of processing:

» Accident Claims Processing – $275 including GST
» Independant Assessors Fee – $165 including GST
» Renter “at-fault” Roadside Assistance – $75 including GST
» Traffic Infringements – $110 including GST
» Toll Infringements – $55 including GST
» Chargebacks – $99 including GST
» 5.5% administration fees + 2.5% credit card surcharge applies to all the above administration charges

Additional Driver
Additional drivers who are listed on the Rental Agreement under the Additional Drivers section (and have presented their current driver’s licence at the time of collecting the hire vehicle) are protected under the Terms & Conditions of the Rental Agreement. A small fee may apply.

Rental Duration
Each car rental day period is 24 hours If the vehicle is returned up to an hour late, one-third of the rental rate will be charged. If it is returned greater than two hours late, two-thirds of the rental will be charged. If the vehicle is returned three hours late (or more), then a full day’s rental is charged. All coverage and options are charged at the daily rate.

Rental Extensions
Extending the rental duration is possible at time of check out or during the rental itself.
You will need to contact or come in person to the nearest location.
The extension is subject to vehicle availability and extra payment.

Refunds
In general there are no refunds for the early return of vehicles. In certain circumstances, at the discretion of Abel rent A Car, management refunds may be awarded for a vehicle’s early return. Any change of plans must be notified to our office in writing.

Cancellations / No Shows
We reserve the right to charge cancellation fees. During peak seasons this cancellation fee may equate to the total reservation value.

Fuel
Your vehicle will be supplied with a full tank of fuel. We ask that you return your rental vehicle full of fuel, or the renter/hirer/credit card holder will be charged a refueling fee of $3.30 Per Litre inc GST payable at the of of the vehicle’s return.

Breakdown
All vehicles are covered by 24-hour Roadside Assistance. Note: Roadside Assistance does not cover non-mechanical defects such as lost keys, keys locked in the vehicle, a flat battery due to lights being left on etc. Costs charged to Abel Rent A Car will be on-charged to the vehicle renter.

Commonly Asked Questions

What do I need to bring with me to the counter to rent a car?
All drivers of the vehicle will need to be present and provide a current valid driver’s licence and credit card in their own name. Drivers with an overseas licence must provide their country licence and international licence. Also, if you have any discounts, coupons, or corporate/government identification, they must be presented upon arrival.

Will my driving record be checked?
To help control liability and insurance costs, several major car rental companies, including us check driving records randomly. We do, screen for high-risk drivers. We may ask potential renters a variety of questions regarding their personal driving records. When ever a prospective renter’s driving history fails to meet a company’s established criteria, the car hire company can deny rental service.

What is a Vehicle Registration Recovery Fee?
The vehicle Registration Recovery Fee (VRRF) is a surcharge to recover the cost of registering a rental vehicle. The VRRF applies to all vehicles and varies from state to state.

Do I need to check the condition of the vehicle before I leave the car location?
Yes. If you find new damage that is not listed on the vehicle quality control sheet given to you at the time of pick-up, you must inform an employee for a joint examination.

If I locked my keys in the vehicle, am I covered by Roadside Assistance?
No, Roadside Assistance does not cover non-mechanical defects such as, lost keys, keys locked in the vehicle, flat battery due to lights being left on, etc. Costs charged to us will be on-charged to the renter.

Can I use another person’s credit card to pay for my rental car?
Yes, you are able to use another person’s credit card for payment and deposit providing they are present at time of rental collection and have photo identification.

Where can I drive the rental vehicle?
You may drive the vehicle in Queensland (no further north than Cairns), Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales and Victoria. We have offices throughout these states, as well as at the major airports and in the capital cities of Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Presently, the vehicles cannot be driven in the Northern Territory, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania.

How do we protect your personal and credit card information online?
The online reservation service is located on a secure server that guarantees the safety of the transaction. The system uses SSL encrypting technology. SSL works by encrypting all communications between your computer and our server so the information cannot be intercepted.

How can I guarantee the make and model of the car I prefer?

What is the cost of additional kilometres?
Additional kilometres are charged at 33 cents per km for passenger vehicles and 55 centre per km for commercial vehicles.

Can I tow using one of our Vehicles?
Some Car’s can be used to tow up to their legal limits. Presently, the vehicles that can be used for towing are our fleet of Toyota Hilux utes.

Can I use a debit card?
Yes, if it has the MasterCard or Visa emblem/logo.
