Budget Terms & Conditions – Summary of Key Points

Rental Vehicle Excess


The excess for your chosen vehicle is approximately AUD $4,400-$5,500.

As owners of the car, the rental company has full insurance for your chosen rental vehicle. Basic cover is included in the rental quote however if the car is damaged, stolen or Third Party Loss occurs during your journey, you must pay up to the Rental Vehicle Excess amount listed in your rental agreement, providing you have adhered to the terms of your agreement.

Budget Australia refer to their excess as the Loss Damage Waiver (LDW). Overhead, underbody and water damage to the car, any damage to vehicle extras (including child seats, GPS & personal belongings) and roadside assistance (eg. towing, off-road time, locked keys or misfueling) are excluded from the capped LDW. Costs to repair or replace such items may be charged at the actual repair cost.

Protection options to reduce or reimburse your rental vehicle excess are available including third party Rental Vehicle Excess insurance or excess reduction at the rental counter.

Credit Card Surcharge


1.29%
 of the total transaction value will be charged by the provider at the time of collecting your rental car.

Security Deposit/Bond


For security purposes of the credit card holder, all renters must have a credit card in their own name. It is not possible to collect a vehicle with someone else’s credit card.

Credit/Debit card payments

If paying by credit/debit card a ‘security hold’ of AUD $200 (AUD $400 for commercial vehicles) in addition to the estimated total rental charges will be placed on the card account provided. The card holder will not have access to these funds until billing is finalised at the completion of the rental.

For Franchise locations the Security Deposit/Bond can be up to $600 if paying with a Debit Card. Please contact us prior to Pickup & we will inquire on your behalf.

Debit Card Payments

Budget accepts any debit card for the payment of a vehicle rental which:

  • is issued by a bank or other financial institution; and
  • displays the MasterCard or Visa logo; and
  • has the customers name and card number on the card.

At the commencement of the rental, Budget does not accept a prepaid or reloadable stored value card, a travel money card or an EFTPOS card. A credit or debit card as outlined above must be presented at the commencement of rental. Upon completion of rental, some Budget locations will accept a prepaid or reloadable stored value card as a form of payment.

Cash Payments

A credit or debit card is required at pick up to secure funds for the rental. At vehicle return customers may have the option to pay by cash, please enquire with Bargainwheels at time of booking your rental to confirm what is possible.

Further, when paying by cash, please contact Vroom at the time of booking your vehicle to confirm Budget’s ‘cash qualification’ requirements including prepayments, refunds and the time required to process qualification application. Cash payments must be arranged and agreed in advance.

Prepaid and Reloadable Debit cards, Gift Cards, Travel cards & EFTPOS cards

Prepaid and Reloadable Debit cards, Gift Cards, Travel cards & EFTPOS cards, these forms of payment are not accepted by Budget Australia.

Driver and Licence Requirements


When you pick up the car, please have your Passport or national ID card, driving licence (unrestricted and in English) and acceptable credit or debit card/s present.

Drivers Licence & ID

A valid driving licence from the renters country of residence must be presented in person at the time of rental.

This licence must include a photo and be written in English and must represent legally authorized, uninterrupted driving privileges, and unrestricted Driver Licence (i.e. not a probationary Licence) in the country of residence for at least one year immediately prior to the rental pick-up date.

This licence must certify the driver as qualified to legally operate the class and category of vehicle being rented.

All driver licences printed non Latin/Roman characters must be accompanied by a valid International Driving Permit (IDP)

All forms of documentation must be issued to the same person, in the same name, and presented together at the time of rental.

Budget in Australia will accept the following drivers licence

  • A driver’s licence issued by any state or territory in Australia or New Zealand.
  • A driver’s licence issued by any United States, territory, or possession.
  • A valid driver’s licence issued by a country participating in the 1949 Geneva convention on Road Traffic or the 1943 Convention on the Regulation of Inter-American Automobile Traffic. (Call your nearest reservation office for participating countries.)
  • Any foreign renter must carry a driver’s licence written in English. Any customer carrying a non-English licence must also present an International Driving Permit that is written in English.
  • International driving permits serve only as a translation, and are valid if presented in conjunction with an official driver’s licence of the issuing country.

Chinese Drivers Licences

Chinese Drivers Licences are acceptable as long as they are also accompanied with a full English translation from an approved translator. This also includes a notary translation done in China.

Restrictions

  • Individuals with Learner’s Permits, Provisional or Probationary licences may not operate Budget vehicles.
  • Budget is unable to rent a car to anyone with a suspended, revoked, expired, cancelled or surrendered driver licence.

Temporary Licences

  • A temporary licence issued as a replacement for a lost licence or due to a change of address is accepted and will be checked for validity.
  • A temporary licence issued as a beginner’s permit for the purpose of learning to drive is not accepted.

Driver Age Requirements

Budget requires drivers to be over the age of 25. Some Budget locations have lower minimum age requirements, such as 21-25, which may incur a daily Young Driver surcharge of AUD $15 (excluding GST) per day.

These minimum age requirements may also restrict the types of vehicles you will be able to rent from Budget. There is no maximum age required to rent with Budget.

Note, local fees and charges may be applied to the displayed prices by the rental company upon collection of your vehicle.

Additional Drivers


Additional driver/s can be added to the rental agreement at the time you collect your hire car at the rental counter.

Your spouse or life partner (with the same home address) can drive the vehicle without being signed on as an additional driver.

Charges of AUD $5.50 per driver per day apply for other additional drivers capped at 5 days and a maximum charge AUD $27.50.
